On Wednesday, December 18, Donald Trump became only the third president in United States history to be impeached — and, not surprisingly, celebrities are reacting to the history-making news on social media. From Bette Midler and John Legend in favor of to John Voight and Kirstie Alley opposed to, stars are taking to Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and more in order to weigh in with their thoughts on the biggest political news of the day (and, arguably, decade).
To recap, the House voted to impeach the real-estate-mogul-turned-president, 73, based on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The charges levied against Trump stem from weeks of testimony related to his dealings with Ukraine and alleged impropriety regarding election interference. Shortly before the official impeachment news came down, Trump sent a six-page letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, accusing the Democratic Party of a partisan “crusade” and “spiteful” abuse of power. Throughout the impeachment hearings, political-minded celebrities have been following along and sharing their thoughts via social media. Some of the most outspoken critics of Trump, such as Midler and Milano, were among the first to respond to the breaking news last night.

This President is not being Impeached because he’s a liar or immoral or a misogynist or a white nationalist or incompetent or ignorant. He’s being Impeached because he committed the High Crimes of Abuse of Power & Obstruction of Congress.
