Cedric Benson, Former NFL and University of Texas Running Back, Dead at 36

Cedric Benson, who was the 4th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, died on Saturday night in a motorcycle crash. He was 36.

According to KXAN in Austin, Benson and another woman were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place around 10:20 PM.

Police told the station a mini-van was trying to cross an intersection when it ran into Benson's motorcycle. Two other people were injured in the crash

Earlier in the day, Benson posted a photo of a BMW motorcycle, which he captioned, "My Saturday evening."

In an emotional Facebook post, Benson's brother shared the news and wrote, "No no no no no no God no!!!! Why him man!!!!! Not Ced man"

Benson's college coach, Mack Brown, posted a comment on an Instagram post about his passing. He wrote, "We lost a great one way too soon #RIP."

Benson went to high school in Midland, Texas before going on to star at the University of Texas from 2001 to 2004. He ran for 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons at the school and won the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back, in his senior season in 2004.

He was drafted by the Chicago Bears but did not find success there. He did have three good seasons in Cincinnatti before a foot injury derailed his career. Benson had not played in the NFL since 2012.
