CBS has handed The Young and The Restless a sizable new lease on life, renewing the venerable soap for four more years. The XL pickup ensures that Y&R will remain on the air through the 2027-28 TV season.

The network’s announcement made no mention of its other daytime drama, The Bold and the Beautiful. A CBS insider tells TVLine that B&B‘s current renewal pact — which, like Y&R, expires this May — includes an additional option year. The source adds that said option will be exercised, thus cementing B&B‘s existence through the 2024-25 TV season.

The Young and the Restless has been a staple of daytime television for over 50 years, and it is with great pleasure that we will continue that legacy at CBS,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, in a statement. “The talented cast and writers deliver compelling performances and stories on a daily basis and have provided iconic moments that have kept the show on top of the ratings and thrilled generations of fans for over five decades. We look forward to seeing what new creative twists and turns they have planned for the folks of Genoa City.”

Y&R — which, per CBS, is averaging 3.50 million viewers this season — has remained daytime’s No. 1 drama series for 36 consecutive years, albeit amid declining competition. Only two other soaps — B&B and ABC’s General Hospital — remain on broadcast TV. (Days of Our Lives is now offered exclusively on NBC’s streaming offshoot, Peacock.)
