CBS Orders Medical Drama Pilot ‘Sensory’ From David Zabel & Scott Free
For a second consecutive year, CBS is ordering two medical drama pilots. The network has greenlighted Sensory, an hourlong pilot from ER alum David Zabel, Scott Free Prods., CBS TV Studios and Sony TV’s TriStar Television.

Zabel, Sensory is inspired by the the true story of Dr. Joel Salinas, a neurologist and researcher at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. The two-hander centers around a veteran neurologist and her protégé who, like Salinas, has mirror-touch synesthesia, a neurological trait that causes him to experience other people’s sensations.
Zabel executive produces with Ridley Scott and David Zucker of Scott Free Prod. and Roger Freet of Foundry Media.
This is CBS’ second medical drama pilot this season, joining Jason Katims’ Bunker Hill. Last year, CBS ordered medical pilots Code Black and LFE, one of which, Code Black, went to series.
Sensory is Zabel’s second collaboration with Scott Free — he also created and executive produces the company’s PBS period medical drama Mercy Street. Sensory stems from Scott Free’s first-look deal with CBS Studios for broadcast projects inked last fall. (Zabel is under an overall deal at Sony TV). At CBS, the company has series The Good Wife and BrainDead.
