CBS Names News Veteran Sharon Hoffman To EP ‘Entertainment Tonight’ And ‘The Insider’

CBS News veteran Sharon Hoffman has been named executive producer at Entertainment Tonight and ET‘s sister show The Insider, CBS said today. Hoffman most recently served as EP Weekend News at CBS News. She oversaw the Saturday and Sunday editions of the CBS Evening News, managed weekend breaking news coverage and special reports for CBS News, and frequently contributed to the weekday broadcast with Scott Pelley as a senior producer and line producer.

Hoffman was part of the senior production team that re-launched CBS This Morning in January 2012. She joined CBS News in October 2011 after three years as senior producer for ABC News’ Good Morning America. She previously served in senior posts at NPR and NBC News during her more than 22 years of experience in national news production.

CBS Corp had been looking for a new ET EP since Brad Bessey exited in August. Bessey replaced Linda Bell Blue, longtime EP of both ET and Insider, in spring 2014.

In today’s announcement, CBS TV Distribution noted ET is the No. 1-rated entertainment newsmag, averaging 4.4 million viewers daily. But some key stats were softening, which caused CBS and Bessey to part company, and gives Hoffman her marching orders, said a source with knowledge of the situation.

Produced and distributed by CBS Television Distribution, Entertainment Tonight is hosted by Nancy O’Dell and Kevin Frazier. Rick Joyce continues as co-executive producer. At The Insider; Joyce and Jeffrey Wilson continue to serve as co-executive producers. Debbie Matenopoulos and Louis Aguirre are co-hosts.
