CBS Buys Father-Son Comedic Procedural Drama From ‘Psych’ Creator Steve Franks

Psych creator Steve Franks is behind another comedic procedural two-hander, Magnolia Springs, which has been set up at CBS.

Written by Franks, the project centers on the Sheriff of Magnolia Springs who discovers that this progressive and idyllic town in the new American South is a hotbed of criminal activity, and he enlists the help of his teenage son to investigate the town’s dark secrets and quirky crimes.

Franks, who is from Orange County, CA, is an avid traveler of the United States and has had a particular affinity for the South.

Franks executive produces Magnolia Springs with Chris Henze of Thruline Entertainment for CBS TV Studios. The two also executive produced Psych together.

After penning the screenplay for Adam Sandler-starrer Big Daddy, Frank segued into television with the hit series Psych, which ran for eight seasons on USA Network with him as exec producer/showrunner. Franks recently served as exec producer and showrunner of CBS’ Rush Hour series reboot.

Franks is repped by ICM Partners, Thruline and attorney Warren Dern.
