Cavas, the Spanish tapas restaurant and bar at 401 E. Erie St. in the Third Ward, will be taking a short hiatus while chef and owner Ana Docta recovers from shoulder surgery.

Docta announced the brief closure on social media.

“I have some important and uplifting updates to share with you all,” she wrote. “First up, I’m heading into a little personal adventure — shoulder surgery!”

Docta said the restaurant would be closed while she recuperates and should be back open in February.

But she won’t just be using the break to recover — Docta said Cavas will return with a rebrand and menu updates.

"We’ll be back in February with new flavors, a refreshed ambiance and the same warm heart that’s always defined us,” Docta said. “Think of it as our kitchen going through a delightful transformation, just like I am.”

Cavas opened in the Third Ward in February 2020, serving small plates like patatas bravas, stuffed dates, empanadas, pimiento, paella and more traditional dishes from Spain, Brazil and Argentina, where Docta is originally from. Its bar specializes in Spanish sparkling cava, small-batch tequila and cocktails.

The restaurant also has a shop that offers wine, tequila, teacups and more gifts for sale.
