New Cats trailer has prompted viewers to question the scale of the movie
The much-anticipated new trailer for the upcoming Cats movie has just landed and it has raised one rather significant question.
Of course, director Tom Hooper previously warned us that the film will be "on a much bigger scale than you can possibly imagine", but seeing that vision play out in the trailers has just raised more questions than it answers as the scale itself appears to change from one scene to the next.

And it's fair to say that viewers of the latest trailer have some feelings about how it all works β although most still can't wait to see it on the big screen just to finally get some answers.
"I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS," one fan wrote after the new trailer's release. "So much dialogue? Wut? Why is furry Idris Elba look quite that confusingly creepy? What is the scale? I literally cannot wait to watch #CATS."

"No one on the Cats movie considered the scale of an actual cat for a second, and honestly?" asked another. "Good for them."
And as a warning, some of the below tweets contain strong language. (That's the power of Cats for you.)

The scale is the most baffling thing to me. Compared to the human sets and props, the cats look at best to be the size of young kittens.
Did no one notice this at any point in production?β Michael Hat οΈ½β΅οΈ½ (@RexDart1) November 19, 2019
The most interesting thing about this CATS movie is what they're doing with the scale of the actors and the sets, which I am quite smitten with as a concept

THE SCALE OF THE CATS IS STILL TROUBLING TO ME

There's so much to hate but honestly the thing that bothers me the most is there is no consistent scale. HOW BIG ARE THESE DANG CATS?

Among other things it looks like the scale is all wrong, like the cats are mouse-sized instead of cat-sized relative to the stuff around them.
Also, everything else about this. WHY.β Naomi Kritzer (@NaomiKritzer) November 19, 2019
ALSO also; The Cats appear to be scaled as tall head to toe as an actual cat is shoulder to toe. So I think that's why the scale of these things seems so weird and wonky.

The actual fuck sized cats are these anyway? The sizing scale of the world around them and the actual cats doesnβt add up π€·βοΈ #JustSaying https://t.co/W6cb8l3op7

not sure tom hooper's ever seen a cat before, the scale is ALL WRONG

If you're still confused about the scale, Idris Elba explained it earlier this year by saying: "You step into a world where everything is three or four times bigger than it would usually be, for the cat's perspective."
Meanwhile, Ian McKellen has his own response to any Cats critics, saying earlier this month: "They're not real cats! The stage show, Cats, was not about a lot of people being convincing as cats, but it was about human beings discovering their cat-like nature.
"They're people playing cats, and that is the notion of the film, and it's been done very wittingly, I think, and particularly the dancers. To see a young person discovering the cat in them, your jaw just drops with delight."
Cats is set for release in UK and US cinemas on December 20, 2019.
