A Catholic priest was punished and removed from his post allowing Sabrina Carpenter to film a music video for her song “Feather” at a Brooklyn church, the New York Times reports.
The “Feather” video, shared to YouTube on Halloween, shows Carpenter at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Williamsburg, dancing on the altar after celebrating the murders of a few sleazy men. On November 2nd, the Catholic News Agency reported that the church’s bishop Robert Brennan was “appalled at what was filmed,” adding that its pastor, Msgr. Jamie J. Gigantiello, had allegedly infringed on diocesan policy by allowing the video shoot to proceed without a review of its scenes and script.
Bishop Brennan then reportedly celebrated a Mass of Reparation to “restore the sanctity of this church and repair the harm” caused by the “Feather” video, before he relieved Monsignor Gigantiello of his administrative duties not long after.
Gigantiello apologized via a statement on the church’s Facebook page November 7th, explaining that an online search on Carpenter “did not reveal anything questionable,” and that he approved the video shoot in an “effort to further strengthen the bonds between the young creative artists who make up a large part of this community.” Meanwhile, the church said that “a more thorough investigation will be made into the approval process in the coming weeks.”
