Cate Blanchett and Hannah Waddingham Lead Celebrity Lineup for Prince William's Awards Night

Cate Blanchett is presenting an award and Hannah Waddingham has hosting responsibilities at the upcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony in Singapore

The glam lineup for Prince William's Earthshot Prize ceremony in Singapore is here!

Hannah Waddingham, the actress at the center of Ted Lasso’s fictional soccer club, is helming the evening as host, helping to spotlight some of the newest innovative ideas to help save the planet.

Waddingham, who said she is “thrilled” to be involved, added in a statement, "The work of the 2023 Prize Finalists is a hopeful reminder of the power of optimism, innovation and human ingenuity. It is an enormous honor to be joining forces with the Prince of Wales for this exciting evening and to play a part in sharing the finalists’ inspiring stories and solutions with the world."

The Emmy Award winner will introduce musical entertainment by Brit pop stars Bastille and OneRepublic for the event in Singapore on Nov. 7.

Also joining the evening is actress and Earthshot Prize Council Member Cate Blanchett, who will present one of the awards.

Blanchett said she is “proud” to be unveiling the winners and added in a statement, "The Earthshot Prize is, again, highlighting and incentivizing courageous, progressive and inventive solutions that can be rapidly upscaled. We don’t have time for inaction and despair, and the incredible climate solutions from around the globe are cause for genuine hope."

“The climate solutions showcased by the prize are wildly exciting – exciting because they are so simple, so possible, and so inevitable. The solutions are game-changing, and like all truly game-changing ideas, they have a strange ‘how could we not have thought and implemented this before?!’ quality.”

To All the Boys star Lana Condor as well as wildlife conservationist and Earthshot advocate Robert Irwin, son of "the Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, will take turns introducing the winners of the prestigious prize. Also calling out the prize winners will be South African actor Nomzamo Mbatha. Each winner will take home $1.3 million.

Organizers promise that isn’t all — and that there are more names to be announced for the special evening.

It is the third ceremony put on by the Prince of Wales' environmental prize and will be broadcast on PBS in the U.S. on Sunday, Nov. 12. The show is produced by Silverback, which makes the famous wildlife programs hosted by Sir David Attenborough. Alongside the more traditional broadcasters and underlining the prince’s team’s desire to meet young people especially where they are, the show will also be run on YouTube.

Prince William, 41, who last year headed to Boston for the second awards evening with his wife Kate Middleton, will be flying solo for this year’s event. Kate, 41, is staying at home to support their son Prince George, 10, who has important school exams.

The prince is also expected to make a speech at the awards evening.

William has "huge ambition" for his trip, which takes place over several days beginning Nov. 5, his spokesman says. The trip to Asia will also promote his United for Wildlife campaign that seeks to clamp down on the illegal trade in endangered species.

“The prince is very much looking forward to being in Singapore,” his spokesman at Kensington Palace said at a briefing on Monday. “The prince wants to really seize the opportunity of being in Southeast Asia to build more momentum around the Earthshot winners and finalists and to put their solutions to some of the biggest environmental challenges we face firmly on the global map.”

The Prince of Wales will arrive at Jewel Changi Airport on Sunday, Nov. 5, and kick off the events at the HSBC Rain Vortex.

Also during the trip, Prince William will take part in dragon boating, a popular local sport that unites both locals and expats from across the Commonwealth.

Central to the visit is the inaugural "Earthshot Week," which will convene businesses and investors with winners and finalists to help accelerate their solutions and ideas.
