‘The Catch’: Can Alice and Margot really trust each other?

The Catch really has come a long way since season 1.

By the close of the season 2 premiere, former romantic rivals Alice (Mireille Enos) and Margot (Sonya Walger) were about to become… allies?!

It turns out, not everyone is happy about Margot being the new head of the Kensington firm, with her lieutenant being murdered mid-coitus — a moment sooner and she would’ve still been on top and taken the fatal bullet herself. Hence, Margot turns to Alice’s private investigation firm A.V.I. for help in finding out who’s trying to kill her.

“I actually think there’s a little pushback from Alice, but ultimately it’s something that she wants to do because Margot holds a lot of answers to Ben’s past,” Enos tells EW. “She’s drawn to that relationship.”

Recalling when Margot portended to be Alice’s therapist in season 1 when Alice was just Ben’s mark, Enos calls them formidable opponents. “There’s a real mutual admiration for one another,” Enos says. “Alice is fascinated by Margot, as is Margot fascinated by Alice.”

The question remains whether these two women can actually trust each other. “They have a very interesting conversation in episode 3,” she teases, “where both of them agree, ‘We’re working together, but that doesn’t mean we have to trust each other, right?’ ‘No, of course not.'”

But even taking this case means putting Alice and her team in the line of fire themselves. “The A.V.I. are in some real danger throughout the course of the season,” Enos says. “It plays out for several episodes. Actually, it plays out in stages for most of the season, because we think that we have the answer, but then actually that person is just a foil for the real person. It keeps tumbling the whole season.”

The Catch airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
