Casting Net: Emma Watson in talks to play Cinderella; Plus Gary Oldman, David Lynch, and more

• Emma Watson might get the princess treatment in Kenneth Branagh’s live action adaptation of Cinderella for Disney. Cate Blanchett has already been cast as the wicked stepmother. Watson is only in early talks at this point, so although it seems like the shoe fits, it might be best not to get too attached to the idea of her as Cinderella. [Variety]

• Gary Oldman has signed on to join the cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, to play Dreyfus – the leader of the resistance efforts. EW previously reported Jason Clarke‘s (Zero Dark Thirty) casting and the news that Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Caesar, the leader of the apes. Oldman is also currently working on the RoboCop remake and Paranoia. [Deadline]

• Jennifer Chambers Lynch has cast her father, David Lynch (yes, that David Lynch) in her new film A Fall From Grace, starring Tim Roth (Arbitrage) as a Missouri homicide detective on the hunt for a serial killer who goes after young girls in St. Louis. Lynch will play Roth’s father. So they’re only 16 years apart, but Sean Connery was only 12 years older than Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It’ll be fine. [THR]

Girls favorite Adam Driver has signed on to star in the independent film Coward, a comedy set in 18th century England. Written and directed by Max Winkler (Ceremony), Driver will play nobleman Lucidius, who hires a commoner to take his place when challenged to a duel. The script is based on Nick Jones’ play The Coward. [Deadline]

• With Johnny Depp signed on and ready to go, we can expect to hear a lot of casting news surround Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, Transcendence, over the next couple of weeks. First up? Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, and the voice of Jarvis in the Iron Man films) is in negotiations to join the cast. [Deadline]

• Jena Malone will lead up the film adaptation of the Arthur Phillips novel Angelica, a supernatural thriller set in the Victorian era. Mitchell Lichtenstein (Happy Tears) is set to direct the project. Malone can be seen next in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Johanna Mason. [Deadline]
