Casting Net: Charlize Theron may join Gillian Flynn adaptation; Plus Colin Farrell, Lily Collins, Rodrigo Santoro, and more

Last time we checked on the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel Dark Places, Amy Adams was in talks to star, but the latest news is that Adams has fallen out and Charlize Theron is interested in the role. Flynn said of Adams last June that she “couldn’t dream of someone more fantastic.” Even though we had been looking forward to seeing Adams in the adaptation, Charlize seems like a perfect alternate for the character of Libby Day. • Colin Farrell is in talks to join Anthony Hopkins in the supernatural thriller Solace, about an FBI agent who enlists the help of a retired doctor to help him solve a series of murders. Farrell will not, however, be playing the agent — he’ll be the serial killer. Brazilian filmmaker Alfonso Poyart (2 Rabbits) is set to direct the project. [Deadline]

Dueling Snow White adaptation stars Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) and Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman) are joining forces for Love, Rosie, based on Cecelia Ahern’s 2004 novel Where Rainbows End. The story follows best friends Rosie (Collins) and Alex (Claflin) through their teen years and into adulthood, told through their different modes of correspondence including IMs, emails, and letters. • Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender have found a new cast mate in Rodrigo Santoro (The Last Stand, Lost), who just signed on to join Jane Got A Gun. The Lynne Ramsey-directed (We Need to Talk About Kevin) Western follows Portman’s character Jane Hammond on her quest to protect her outlaw husband from a gang, which involves reaching out to an ex (Fassbender) for help. Zero Dark Thirty‘s Joel Edgerton is also set to star in the film. [Deadline]
