Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura’s husband, Alex Fine, speaks out in light of shocking new video footage that shows the singer being physically assaulted by former boyfriend Sean 'Diddy' Combs in a Los Angeles hotel.

CNN published the 2016 altercation, which captured surveillance video of Combs, now 54, grabbing, shoving and kicking Ventura, now 37. Combs’ actions in the footage matched allegations Ventura made in a lawsuit against Combs last November that was settled the very next day.

A rep for Combs has not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Fine, 31, shared an Instagram post expressing his support for domestic violence victims. He shared a screenshot of a notes application, which read:

“Men who hit women aren't men. Men who enable it and protect those people aren't men. As men, violence against women shouldn't be inevitable, check your brothers, your friends, and your family. Our daughters, sisters, mothers, and wives should feel protected and loved. Hold the women in your life with the upmost regard. Men who hurt women hate women.”

He continued: “To all the survivors, find the men and women who help and love. To all the survivors, your stories are real, and people believe you. To all the survivors you're not alone, and there are men and women who care only for your well being and safety. We want you to succeed and flourish. To all the women and children, I'm sorry you live in a world where you're not protected, and you don't feel equal. I want to raise my daughters in a world where they are safe and loved.”

The personal trainer concluded the post by directly speaking to “the abusers.”

“You're done, you're not safe anymore, you're not protected anymore, the men by your side are just as weak, you're so miserable with yourself that death would be considered a kindness.”

Ventura and Fine were rumored to be an item in December 2018, two months after confirming her breakup with rapper Diddy. The pair married the following August and now share two daughters: Frankie, 4, and Sunny, 3.

The video was taken at the since-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City. Throughout the video, Ventura is seen exiting a hotel room and walking toward an elevator as Combs chases her down the hallway with a towel around his waist. Once he reaches her, he is seen grabbing her by the neck and tossing her to the ground, where he then violently kicks and then grabs her purse and suitcase.

He then kicks her once more as she lies motionless on the ground. Combs then drags her briefly toward their room before letting her go and walking away.

The footage that resurfaced on Friday follows Ventura’s November 2023 lawsuit against Combs, in which she accused him of rape, sex trafficking and domestic violence. In it, she outlined an incident that matches the altercation seen in the video footage.

The lawsuit said that in 2016, Combs “became extremely intoxicated and punched Ms. Ventura in the face, giving her a black eye” while in a hotel.

"After he fell asleep, Ms. Ventura tried to leave the hotel room, but as she exited, Mr. Combs awoke and began screaming at Ms. Ventura," the lawsuit claimed. "He followed her into the hallway of the hotel while yelling at her. He grabbed at her, and then took glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape."

Per the lawsuit, Ventura managed to get into the elevator and she took a cab to her apartment.

“Upon realizing that her running away would cause Mr. Combs to be even angrier with her, and completely stuck in his vicious cycle of abuse, Ms. Ventura returned to the hotel with the intention of apologizing for running away from her abuser,” the complaint claimed. “When she returned, hotel security staff urged her to get back into a cab and go to her apartment, suggesting that they had seen the security footage showing Mr. Combs beating Ms. Ventura and throwing glass at her in the hotel hallway.”

The complaint also alleged that Combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the hallway security footage from that event.

"This hotel is no longer under IHG management, and we do not have any access to prior incident records or footage," IHG said in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

Upon settling their lawsuit last November, Combs' lawyer Ben Brafman said the settlement was "in no way an admission of wrongdoing."
