Over the weekend, a shocking video from 2016 surfaced showing Sean “Diddy” Combs attacking Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura in a hotel hallway. As the clip has caused even more disdain for Combs, the footage directly coincides with Cassie’s 2023 claims in her lawsuit against the music mogul, and counters Diddy’s statement that he “DID NOT DO ANY OF THE AWFUL THINGS BEING ALLEGED” against him.

Following the heartbreaking video, Diddy took to Instagram to “apologize” for his “inexcusable behavior,” to which the “Me & U” singer’s legal team lawyer released a statement slamming the 54-year-old’s “disingenuous words.”

“Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” Meredith Firetog, a partner at Wigdor LLP, stated. “When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday. That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.”

Early Sunday morning (May 19), the father of four girls and three boys took to his Instagram to say, “My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now. I went and I sought out professional help and I had to go into therapy. We’re going to rehab.”

Without ever mentioning Cassie’s name, he added, “I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”

However, Diddy’s comment section immediately filled with backlash.

“I can only imagine what happened to her after you dragged her back into the room,” one person wrote as another said, “You only sorry it came out…. U calling gods name now. Where was the apology when it happened? U didn’t turn yuhself in for doing her like dat did u? Ok ion wanna hear it fr.”

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office stated on Saturday (May 18) that they are aware of the 2016 “disturbing and difficult to watch” video, but unfortunately, wouldn’t be unable to charge Diddy “as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.”

“As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr. Combs,” the LA office continued.

In Cassie’s lawsuit against Diddy, she did indeed detail the very incident that the world recently witnessed at the hands of the Bad Boy boss. The 37-year-old explained that Diddy became drunk and punched her in the eye, giving her a “black eye.” She claimed that he then fell asleep and became physically violent again when she attempted to leave the hotel room.

“He followed her into the hallway of the hotel while yelling at her,” the suit detailed. “He grabbed at her, and then took glass vases in the hallway and threw them at her, causing glass to crash around them as she ran to the elevator to escape.”

The suit also noted that the IHG Hotel staff tried to encourage her to leave but she went back with Diddy, “apologizing for running away from her abuser.” Cassie alleged that Diddy paid the hotel $50,000 to obtain footage of the hallway incident.

Following the bomb of a video, the hotel stated that they are no longer under the management that was present when the incident happened, NBC News reports. “IHG did not produce this footage, did not receive money for this footage, and does not have access to it,” it stated.
