Cash Money Millionaires Set To Do It For The “’99 And The 2000” At 2024 Essence Fest
After years of feuding, Birdman and Cash Money are set to finally hit the stage together at the 2024 Essence Festival held in New Orleans this summer.
The historic record label that birthed Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Turk, B.G. and Manny Fresh, and went on to introduce Nicki Minaj, Drake and Tyga to the world, has been way overdue for a reunion. Now, it seems as though its co-founders, Bryan “Birdman” Williams, and his brother, Ronald “Slim” Williams, have made many fans’ wish come true.
Essence announced “Birdman Presents 30 years of Cash Money Millionaires,” via Instagram on May 1, although it has yet to be confirmed who will hit the stage from Cash Money’s iconic roster.
“Put some RESPECT on the NAME,” the annual event captioned the announcement. “Let’s go 30 years for 30 years and start this thing off with New Orleans. The most anticipated reunion goes down at this year’s ESSENCE Fest. You asked, and we delivered. For the love of CULTURE. For the love of US. For the love of the 99’ and 2000 – The Takeover has begun. Your July 4th weekend plans have just been confirmed.”
Juvenile hinted at a reunion in March while speaking with TMZ. He also spoke on the feud between Lil Wayne and B.G. upon the latter’s release from jail.
“No negativity from me, man,” the “Back That Azz Up” rapper said. “You know, with me, I’m always like, ‘It’s gon’ happen.’ It’s gonna happen. We gotta let them simmer down a little bit. But trust me though, it’s happening.”
B.G. also agreed on a reunion as he told his followers that he was pretty much waiting on Weezy to “stop playing.”
While speaking on Instagram Live, he said, “Say Juvie, there’s people on my line, man, about this Hot Boys reunion. Weezy, stop playing, man. It’s a big bag involved, man. Ya heard me? I know you super rich. I know you like Taylor Swift outchea. Come on, man. Stop playing, man. Let’s get to this bag.”
The “Gold Teeth Gizzle” also addressed how he felt about his brethren in music on his song “Gangstafied” with Finesse2Tymes.
He took shots at “The Greatest Rapper Alive” with: “My ni**a Boosie went home and my dawg was steady blowing/ My ni**a Weezy steady touring but he’s bi**h and it’s showing/ I’m still a living legend, don’t act like you didn’t know it.”
Following the line’s backlash, B.G. clarified that his history with Wayne goes way back to them being teenagers. And even though he may be bashing his “little bro,” it’s still all “love.”
“Y’all don’t understand what the f**k be going on, you know what I’m saying? I tell a ni**a I love him and call him a bi**h all in the same sentence,” he said in an Instagram video while sitting in the studio. “It’s family business, man. Shout out to my little brother Weezy. I spoke to my little brother last night. Shout out to shorty, man. Still my little bro. Love my little bro. This sh*t be complicated.”
Hopefully, Cash Money fans of today and yesteryear will get to witness the entire crew come back together in their hometown of New Orleans during Fourth of July weekend.
