In Case You've Forgotten, Selena Gomez Is Still Executive Producing 13 Reasons Why

The highly anticipated season three of 13 Reasons Why drops on Aug. 23 and although she remains behind the scenes, Selena Gomez is still involved in the series. The singer referred to it as "a passion project" in 2017, and in addition to actively promoting the show on social media, she also spent time with its stars during and post-production. After season one premiered, Gomez, Alisha Boe (who plays Jessica Davis), and Tommy Dorfman (who plays Ryan Shaver) got matching semicolon tattoos to symbolize suicide awareness and prevention.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez is still an executive producer along with her mom, Mandy Teefey, and Joy Gorman, Kristel Laiblin, and the late Steve Golin for Anonymous Content. On Aug. 1 she retweeted the season three trailer, but Gomez hasn't been as publicly involved as she was at the series' outset. "I haven't seen Selena," star Anne Winters (who plays Chlöe Rice) told US Weekly in December. "I think she has a lot to do behind the scenes, but she's so busy and doing a lot, so I think that she's probably not going up to see filming." Winters noted that she'd met Gomez at the season two wrap party and described her as "super cool, super nice."

Although she's back on social media and has made several public appearances, Gomez has kept a relatively low profile over the past year, so it's not surprising that she's largely staying behind the scenes. In September 2018, the star announced on Instagram that she was "taking a social media break" and stepped out of the public eye. Shortly after her post, Gomez sought mental health treatment on the East Coast, and she's setting a positive example by putting her health first. It also explains why she wasn't able to visit the set at the time of Winters's interview.

In April, Gomez gave her first major interview of the year on Coach's Dream It Real podcast. She shared that she still goes to therapy for anxiety and depression, and said that she limits her Instagram use because the platform sometimes has a negative impact on her mental health. Due to Gomez's own experiences with mental illness, it's no surprise that 13 Reasons Why is so important to her. She may not be giving as many interviews or sharing as many social media posts as she did to promote season one, but Gomez remains committed to her work behind the scenes as an executive producer.
