Carson Wentz, Eagles receivers gather in exotic Fargo for pre-camp work

It’s not at all unusual for NFL quarterbacks and their receivers to gather for a few days in the offseason, away from the team facility, to bond and work on their timing.

These gatherings usually happen in vacation hotspots like San Diego or a far-off locale. But Fargo, N.D.? We’re probably seeing a first.

Heading into his second season, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who moved to North Dakota with his family as a toddler and played at North Dakota State, has gotten his receivers to fly to the city more known for a movie and television series that bear its name than as a football hotbed.

On Sunday, new Eagles receiver Alshon Jeffery tweeted that he was in Fargo and in search of a bison burger:

Torrey Smith, Nelson Agholor and rookie Shelton Gibson are also in Fargo according to various social media accounts, though others, including Jordan Matthews and tight ends Zach Ertz and Trey Burton, were also expected.

Wentz invited his teammates to his home state last month, as the Eagles were wrapping up their mandatory minicamp.

While it’s great to see Wentz showing such initiative – Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson praised the leadership Wentz was displaying by planning such a gathering – if we were one of the quarterback’s receivers, we’d be angling to visit someone else’s hometown next offseason.

Ertz is from Orange County, Calif., and Smith is from is from a small Virginia beach town. and hey, Agholor was born in Nigeria. Just a suggestion…
