This Cars and Wall-E fan theory will leave you questioning everything

It's a longstanding fact that all Pixar movies take place in the same universe. There are countless cases of characters from one movie appearing in another.

With the wealth of movies headed to Disney+ on March 24, you can now try and keep track of all the connected moments yourself. But this theory takes the shared universe one step further.

One Redditor posited that not only do Cars and Wall-E take place in the same Pixar shared universe, but Cars actually takes place on another planet, one full of the lost ships and technology from Wall-E.

Not Earth, nope!

The theorist explains that even though the world Cars takes place in looks like Earth, it's actually a huge planet that has been heavily terraformed. The original inhabitants who created it designed specific landmarks to be familiar.

The theory also claims that the Cars are not only sentient but actually house the humans themselves. Because humans can't survive the gravitational force of the giant planet, they instead place themselves inside the cars and planes to protect their bodies.

We know this is a bit of a leap. In fact, it might make more sense to take this one step further and posit that people can actually upload their consciousnesses to the cars' computers (a la Matrix, or Replicas if ya nasty).

Presuming Cars takes place in a future where technology is so advanced, we can assume there's plenty of possibilities to build the kind of world in which Cars exists.

The theory is only bolstered by the official Pixar shared-universe site. According to it, Cars takes place between 2100-2200 and the description of the Cars franchise ends with the line: "How do we know cars took over Earth and not another planet?"

DUN DUN DUN!

In fact, the Cars have to have taken over another planet, because at the end of Wall-E we return to Earth to see a tree sprouting from a boot on a desolate planet. If Cars had taken over Earth, that scene would have played out very differently – there would have been cars!

Even acquiescing that at the end of Cars 2 "Earth" (or whatever planet they're on that maybe looks like Earth) is inhabitable for humans, that doesn't explain why the final shots of Wall-E don't feature any talking cars or planes. We also have to note that the grand Pixar Theory doesn't include Cars 3, but even counting Cars 3 in, the theory still holds (some) water.

All in all, it's an interesting theory that further connects the already connected world of Pixar movies.

Cars, Cars 2, and Wall-E will be available to watch on Disney+ from March 24 in the UK
