Carrie Underwood still not ready to show her face after gruesome injury

After her “gruesome” accident in November that resulted in a facial injury that required 40 to 50 stitches, Carrie Underwood has said she’s “not quite looking the same.” As she recovers, she’s staying out of the spotlight — even on social media.

Not only has the country singer yet to return to the red carpet — her last public appearance was on Nov. 8 when she co-hosted the CMA Awards just days before the accident, during which she also broke her wrist — but also she has refrained from posting photos of her whole face on Instagram. In the few photos of herself that she’s shared, including a new one on Friday, her face is obstructed.

“The Champion” singer, 34, posted a new photo Friday with her out-of-retirement hockey star hubby, Mike Fisher, in which they’re holding red X’s in honor of the End It Movement. While Fisher’s was on his hand and relatively small, Underwood, whose marriage is solid for those who were wondering about the rumors, held a large one up over her face.

Looking through her feed, she’s really only shared pics in which her face is obstructed. For example, one snapshot shows only the back of her head while she works out alongside her son, Isaiah, who turns 3 in a few days.

The most obvious was probably the one of herself with her face wrapped in a scarf.

As she continues through the recovery process, she’s gotten creative with her social shares. She posted this adorable portrait by her little guy, for example.

Isaiah painted this…yeah, that’s pretty accurate…

However, Underwood did agree to take a photo with a fan in December, which surfaced a month later after she revealed her injuries for the first time. In it, she looked like her stunning self. If there were significant injuries, you couldn’t tell. She did appear a little camera-shy — though that could be attributed to many things, including that she just sweat her face off in an exercise class.

Around the new year, the American Idol winner turned superstar shared with her fan club members that her broken wrist, which required surgery, wasn’t the extent of her injuries.

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” she wrote. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in. Now… seven weeks later and, even though I’ve had the best people helping me, I’m still healing and not quite looking the same… When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.”

Well, she still looks beautiful to us. Whether it’s a sliver of her face — or the whole thing.
