A 12 Year Tradition

While Carrie Underwood is first and foremost known for churning out country hits, she has also been the host/co-host of the Country Music Awards for the last 12 years.

Underwood shared the stage and hosting duties with country legends Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, and these three talented women absolutely slayed. Underwood marked the occasion with a number of Instagram posts, saying:

"@Reba and @DollyParton, thanks for showing me how it's done! I am so honored to share the stage with you!"

However, Underwood shocked fans on Monday when she announced that she would no longer be hosting the iconic awards show.

She's Loved Every Minute

In a lengthy Instagram post, Underwood broke the bittersweet news to her fans. She focused on how proud she is to have been a part of country music history and how much she appreciates her co-hosts.

"One of the highlights of 2019 and of my entire career so far was being on star with the legends that are Reba and Dolly Parton. I'm so proud that we could celebrate the incredible female artists that are part of the legacy of country music, past, present and future, and I'm thankful for the huge audiences all over the world that tuned in to see it. It's hard to believe that it was my 12th year hosting and I will always treasure every show, from the 11 that I was so lick to do with my partner in crime and friend for life, Brad Paisley, to sharing the stage with two of my all-time heroes."

It's Time For A Change

Underwood continued, explaining that she wants to pass the torch while she's still on top. I mean, does it get any better than sharing the stage with Reba and Dolly??

"I'm so incredibly grateful to everyone involved with the CMA Awards all these years. It's hard to imagine topping what we have accomplished together, so I've decided that it's time to pass the hosting torch (at least for now!) to others that will cherish it and honor it as much as I do. I've got so many exciting things coming in the new year and beyond, and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for all of us. #blessed #MemorableMoments"

She Could Still Be Back

While Underwood definitely left the door open to return again at some point in the future, fans are devastated that she won't be taking the stage (as a host anyway) any time soon.

"We will miss you as hilarious host, but we hope you be back soon, Carrie! thanks for brightening our CMA nights all these years!"

"Aw I'm really sad. Literally tearing up! [Carrie Underwood] you changed country music entirely from the bottom. It's hard to see you leave, I really do hope that doesn’t change cause you did say for 'now' this CMAs was absolutely incredible with [Reba] & [Dolly Parton] hosting with you and all the others as well with [Brad Paisley] it’s going to be so different not seeing you because that’s obviously the best part. You will be MISSED on the show."

"I will certainly miss seeing you host but you can't top hosting with your heroes! Can’' wait to see what you have in store for the future!!!"

"This makes me sad, I've loved watching you host all these years. I hope to see you get Entertainer of the Year this coming year, as you deserved this last year."
