Carrie Underwood reveals the gender of her baby at the CMAs, again

The last time Carrie Underwood hosted the Country Music Association Awards while pregnant, in 2014, her cohost Brad Paisley accidentally revealed the gender of her first baby. The hashtag #BradBlewIt subsequently blew up Twitter. This year, Paisley was determined not to blow it -- but he was determined to get Underwood, who is currently very pregnant with her second child, to spill the beans herself. During their jokey opening monologue that also covered Underwood’s 2017 fall (Paisley provided her with some protective wearable bubble-wrap), gender inequality in the country music business, and A Star Is Born, Paisley said, "Remember last time, when I accidentally revealed the gender of your baby? Tonight, we're going to reveal something even more exciting -- who your baby's father is!” He then quipped, “Mike, we’re all rooting for you, buddy,” as the camera cut to Underwood's husband, Mike Fisher, sitting in the audience. Once Underwood assured Paisley that Fisher was indeed the father, Paisley returned to the subject of the baby’s gender. "Seriously, Carrie, give me a little baby hint," he pestered. "Johnny or June? Keith or Nicole? Garth or Trisha? George or Tammy? Tim or Faith?" "No! I am hormonal, I will hurt you," Underwood protested. "Waylon or Willie?" Paisley then nagged, referring to male country legend Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. "That doesn't even make sense!" Carrie said, exasperated, before finally caving and gasping, "Oh my God! Willie! It's a Willie!" So it seems there’s a little brother on the way for Underwood and Fisher’s 3-year-old son, Isaiah. (Contrary to another silly musical bit in the show, Underwood’s eldest son is not “Walmart yodeler” Mason Ramsey, who made a cameo and awkwardly addressed her as “Mom.”) Underwood has not announced her due date, but she is set to return to touring in May 2019. The 52nd Annual Country Music Association Awards took place Wednesday at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
