Carpool Karaoke: James Corden, Jennifer Lopez edition to air during CBS prime-time special

CBS to air Carpool Karaoke prime-time special featuring Jennifer Lopez

Carpool Karaoke may end up as its own TV show, but in the meantime, it’s getting its own special in prime time.

CBS announced on Thursday that it will air The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special on March 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, and Jennifer Lopez will be in the passenger seat.

The special will include highlights from previous segments of the viral bit — which have featured such artists as Adele, One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Mariah Carey singing their hits with Late Late Show host James Corden. (The Adele ride has become the most-watched late-night clip ever, with more than 84 million YouTube views.) In addition, Corden will showcase his favorite moments from his first year on the job.

A stand-alone Carpool Karaoke series is currently being shopped around to networks. There is recent precedent: Lip Sync Battle, which was featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, has become its own show on Spike TV.

Lopez, who currently stars on NBC drama Shades of Blue and Fox’s American Idol, has released three No. 1 albums and sold 75 million records worldwide.
