Caroline Kennedy on Son Jack Schlossberg’s Criticism of Cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: ‘It’s Not Complicated’

"I’m very glad I did it. I stand by what I said in my video," Schlossberg said of a recent Instagram post in which he criticized his mom's cousin, RFK Jr.

Amid an apparent strain between members of the Kennedy family in response to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s conspiracy-filled presidential run, John F. Kennedy’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy, says, "It's not complicated."

On Tuesday, Caroline (who is the U.S. ambassador to Australia) and her son, Jack Schlossberg, were on the Today show when Savannah Guthrie asked about criticism from members of the family directed at RFK Jr., who launched his presidential campaign in April.

"Jack, I have to ask you, you posted a video — obviously ... RFK Jr. is running for president. You posted a video and you were quite critical of his views, his standpoints, the things he said. What led you to do that? Why was it important to you? Are you glad you did it?" Guthrie asked, referencing a video Schlossberg posted on Instagram calling RFK Jr.'s candidacy "an embarrassment."

"I’m very glad I did it. I stand by what I said in my video," Schlossberg said. "I love my family and I’m very proud of our legacy of public service, especially my mom. We’re lucky to have her as U.S. ambassador to Australia. But I think Joe Biden is a fantastic president. On every from the economy, health care, climate change, civil rights — his record speaks for itself."

Schlossberg, a 30-year-old attorney, made headlines for the video he posted in May, in which he says: "President John F. Kennedy is my grandfather and his legacy is important. It’s about a lot more than Camelot and conspiracy theories. It’s about public service and courage. It’s about civil rights, the Cuban missile crisis, and landing a man on the moon.”

Elsewhere in the video, Schlossberg said President Joe Biden has focused on "the issues that matter," adding: "If my cousin, Bobby Kennedy Jr., cared about any of them, he would support Joe Biden, too. Instead, he’s trading in on Camelot, celebrity, conspiracy theories, and conflict for personal gain and fame."

Speaking on Today, Schlossberg's mom, Caroline, said she didn't know he was going to post the video, but that it's "not complicated."

"I know what I think, I know what Jack thinks, I know what Bobby Kennedy thinks. And so, it’s not complicated," Caroline added.

Known for his track record of spouting debunked misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccinations, 69-year-old RFK Jr. has recently made headlines for echoing antisemitic discourse that Jews engineered and spread the COVID-19 virus.

RFK Jr.'s younger sister, Kerry Kennedy — who runs a human rights organization named after their father, Robert F. Kennedy — weighed in on the controversy shortly after, tweeting, "I STRONGLY condemn my brother's deplorable and untruthful remarks last week about Covid being engineered for ethnic targeting."

Meanwhile, House Republicans have seemingly embraced RFK Jr., even recently inviting Kennedy to speak at a hearing by the GOP-led House Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.

During the hearing, Kennedy accused political foes — including the Biden administration — of trying to silence him, and insisted, “In my entire life, and while I’m under oath I have never uttered a phrase that was either racist or antisemitic.”

He also claimed he has "never been anti-vaccine,” despite his history of spreading scientifically discredited narratives about vaccines and founding an anti-vaccination advocacy group in 2011.
