EXETER — As part of their “Second Friday” artist reception music series, the Seacoast Artist Association in downtown Exeter presents popular Seacoast musician and WUNH radio show host Carol Coronis, Sept. 8, 5 to 7 p.m.  Attendees can also enjoy refreshments and meet the SAA artists and purchase from their artwork on display.

Nominated for a 2014 Spotlight Award in Best Roots category, Coronis has been firing up audiences with her energetic delivery of music in the Balkan/Middle Eastern, Celtic, rock, and American roots genres for over a decade now. Coronis's main instrument is the cittern, sort of a 10-string ‘mandolin-on-steroids" as she calls it, and also plays guitar, piano, bouzouki, and mandolin.

“Somehow all these years later I feel a powerful draw to my roots and the music I heard as a child at home and at the festivals where my dad played bouzouki and guitar in his Greek-American band.  The ten years my brother Chuck and I were part of his band during high school and college were resurrected when we played a set at the Portsmouth Music Hall back in 2003 as part of a community presentation featuring Portsmouth’s musical heritage.  Now I’m hearing and feeling the music with the new perspective of time and experience."Admission is free; donations appreciated.

The Seacoast Artist Association is an all-volunteer non-profit completely supported by donations, exhibition feels and sales commissions, a portion of which is placed in their scholarship fund and awarded each year to qualifying high school seniors from the area.  This month the gallery theme show features the annual Mystery Kits where all proceeds go to the scholarship fund.  All artwork in the gallery is for sale.

The gallery is located at 130 Water St., in historic downtown Exeter.  Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  See more at seacoastartist.org and follow them on Facebook.  Questions can be emailed to gallery@seacoastartist.org.
