Carnival of Silver Skates is Jan. 30 in Groton

Groton will host its 84th Carnival of Silver Skates, featuring nearly 90 figure skaters, on Jan. 30.

Two performances are planned at the Groton ice rink at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The ice rink is on the west side of town near the baseball complex.

This year's theme is Adventures on Ice, according to a news release, and features ice skaters from pre-school through high school as well as several specialty acts. Two acts will be performed by members of the Watertown Figure Skating Club.

The 2022 Carnival of Silver Skates Royalty will be crowned during the 2 p.m. performance. This year’s senior candidates are Kennedy Anderson, Brooklyn Imrie, Julianna Kosel and Christina Zoellner. Junior candidates are Carter Barse, Brenna Carda, Shallyn Foertsch, KayLynn Overacker and Marlee Tollifson.

Admission is $3 for attendees who are 13 and older, $2 for ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and younger. Attendees can listen to the snow on their car radios. Parking is available starting at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., but attendees are asked to limit vehicles to one per family.
