Carly Rae Jepsen wants nothing more than to spend time with you (yes, you … really!) for “Anything to Be With You,” but for whatever reason, you don’t seem to be available, and she spends most of the video walking and twirling on city streets alone. “Anything you wanna do, I really wanna do with you,” she sings on the song, which leads off her recently released The Loveliest Time. “I can be friends with your friends, your friends/Anything to be with you.” Maybe she’s coming on a little too strong.

Nevertheless, she remains upbeat and leans into the intensity that comes in the early days of a budding relationship. “The beginning of romance can be a little wild,” she writes on Twitter. “I have been known to do extremely impractical things to make a relationship work. Like travel across the globe to be with the one I love for just one day. The extreme nature of this song is what makes it sexy to me.”

She also acknowledged the apparent emptiness of her desire in the video. “This visualizer is lots of jumping, spinning, running, and winding through Chicago and New York,” she wrote, adding, “longing looks a lot like love too I think. The inspiration came from that new love desperation.”

Jepsen told Rolling Stone about what she wanted to say with the song last month. “A lot of the songs [on the album] are about the wild feeling that you will do anything to make yourself feel alive,” she said. “Opening with ‘Anything to Be With You,’ it shows a ‘we will make it happen’ feeling. It’s a little movie-esque in that way. But I want my life to feel as wild as that.”
