Carlton County students invited to enter Peace Poster Contest

Sep. 28—CARLTON — Carlton County kids are invited to enter the 2023-2024 Lions International Peace Poster Contest, themed "Dare to Dream."

The Carlton Area Lions Club, in partnership with the Encore Performing Arts Center and Gallery, are sponsoring the contest. It is open to all Carlton County students who will be age 11, 12 or 13 on Nov. 15, according to a news release from the Lions Club.

"We would love to feature our young artists of Carlton County," Lions Club member Joel Soukkala said in the news release. "This could turn out to be a wonderful opportunity for an area youth on an international level."

There will be an art reception at Encore on Nov. 4 from 6-7 p.m., with an awards presentation at 6:45 p.m. The winning poster will advance to the District 5M10 Poster Contest, where one poster will move on to the international level.

The international grand prize winner will receive a trip to an awards ceremony, where they will be given $5,000 and an award. There will also be 23 merit award winners who will receive $500 each and a certificate.

The entry deadline is Oct. 27. Poster entries must be submitted at Encore, 2035 Frontage Road, Cloquet. For more information, contact Joel Soukkala at 218-451-0715 or
