Everton confirm appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as manager

Carlo Ancelotti is back in the Premier League after agreeing to become the new Everton manager.

The Italian, who won a League and FA Cup double with Chelsea in 2010, will join the struggling Merseyside club, replacing Marco Silva who left at the start of December following a poor start to the season.

Everton have picked up four points since Silva’s sacking – against Chelsea and Manchester United – under the stewardship of caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson.

Ancelotti, 60, had been in charge of Napoli in his native Italy but was relieved of his duties despite leading the club to the last 16 of this year’s Champions League. He was contract with his previous club, but may have foregone money owed to take up the reigns at Goodison Park.

Napoli, who have been the closest challengers to Juventus’ Serie A dominance over the last five years, have struggled in the league this season and currently sit in eighth, with just one win in their last 11 games.

Ancelotti has won 17 major trophies during his managerial career, including three Champions League titles, and enjoyed spells at the likes of Milan, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
