The trailer for Mike Flanagan’s Netflix limited series The Fall of the House of Usher has been released, starring Carla Gugino as a mysterious woman who emerges from the shadows to pick off the family of corrupt Fortunato Pharmaceuticals CEO Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood) one by one. Watch the clip below ahead of the show’s premiere on October 12th.

After opening with a shot of Greenwood lying dead on the ground, the clip flashes back to the aftermath of a trial in which the Ushers seemed to get off scot-free from their crimes. “Anyone comes after us, we will exhaust our arsenal until the threat’s neutralized,” Mary McDonnell’s Madeline Usher says, full of bravado. “Neutralized, like dead.”

That’s until Gugino’s Verna comes into the picture and catches them by surprise. “Roderick Usher, your family is a collection of stunted hearts whose time has come,” she says. From there, Verna makes Usher’s children pay for his sins at the cost of death. “I’m afraid you’re ringside for my reckoning, old friend,” Roderick says to a confidant with resignation.

Loosely based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher spans eight episodes and was created by Flanagan, the mind behind The Haunting of Hill HouseThe Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass. Flanagan and his frequent collaborator Michael Fimognari each directed four episodes.

Greenwood stepped into his role after Langella was fired from the show for sexual misconduct on set. The massive ensemble cast also features Carl Lumbly, Mark Hamill, Michael Trucco, T’Nia Miller, Paola Nuñez, Henry Thomas, Kyleigh Curran, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Willa Fitzgerald, Katie Parker, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Aya Furukawa, Daniel Jun, Matt Biedel, Ruth Codd, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney, and Robert Longstreet.
