Carey Mulligan is remembering her first impressions of husband Marcus Mumford — when they were just kids!

In an episode of Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett's SmartLess podcast published Monday, the Maestro star, 38, revealed she first met Mumford, 36, at a camp.

“I wrote in my diary that he was the nicest, the kindest person I'd ever met and I gave him 9 1/2 out of 10," the British actress said of getting to know Mumford.

Ironically, she added, "I also wrote in my diary that he definitely wasn't boyfriend material. Not that I'd ever had a boyfriend at that time! But I decided that he was not it."

In 2015, Mulligan revealed to Vogue that it was at a Christian youth camp that she’d met the Mumford and Sons frontman, when she was 12 and he was 10. Bateman, Hayes and Arnett expressed surprise upon learning the future husband-and-wife duo became pen pals after that experience.

In response to Hayes asking if a “hook up” was part of that camp memory, Mulligan said, “We didn’t.”

Mulligan reconnected with the musician in 2011 when they both worked together on the 2013 film Inside Llewyn Davis. "If we had not met as adults in Nashville, which is how we did end up meeting, we would have met on that job because we both got hired independent of each other,” she said. They tied the knot on a farm in Somerset, England, in 2012. In attendance at the intimate ceremony were  Sienna Miller, Jake Gyllenhaal and Colin Firth.

The couple share daughter Evelyn Grace, 7, and son Wilfred, 5. In October, they confirmed in a Vogue cover story interview that they had welcomed their third child. In November, Mulligan confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that it was a baby girl: “Good baby, 10 out of 10 so far," she told the outlet with a thumbs up.

When asked what score out of 10 Mulligan would give her husband now after that 9 1/2, the An Education Oscar nominee joked to the SmartLess hosts, “He’s a solid 6.”

Their interview also covered Mulligan’s acting techniques and how they applied to her performance as Felicia Montealegre Bernstein, wife of Leonard Bernstein, in Maestro (now streaming on Netflix), which was recently nominated for a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award. Arnett called it “one of the great performances I’ve seen in the last 20 years.”

“I don’t think I’ve had a part like this,” she said. When director-star Bradley Cooper offered her the part of Felicia, she added, “I was shocked. Because, first of all, I thought, ‘Oh, you think I can act! That’s so nice!’

“But secondly… he had just done A Star Is Born, it was just wild to think, ‘Gosh, you’re trusting me with this.’ He said, ‘If you’re going to do this, you have to go all in.’”

The interview was also interrupted midway through by Poor Things star Emma Stone, who appeared on the podcast Dec. 11.

Mulligan will next star in Spaceman, a sci-fi drama starring Adam Sandler, on Netflix March 1.
