Cardi B slams Republicans for being 'afraid' to stand up to Trump, sparks backlash

Cardi B is getting political once again – regardless of who might not like it.

The "Money" rapper, who has voiced support for Bernie Sanders in the 2020 presidential race, took to Instagram Sunday to post a video of herself criticizing Republicans for aligning with President Donald Trump and urging her fans to vote for a Democratic candidate in 2020. The video received mixed responses in the comments, with some fans voicing support for the rapper and others standing up for the president.

"Dear bloggers, dear YouTubers, dear influencers, we have the power to influence our youth to get educated when it comes to our Democratic candidates," the 26-year-old said in the NSFW video.

"You see the Republicans," she continued. "They are afraid to stand up to Trump, because he might take their positions away from them, but the Democrats, they just don't give a (expletive)."

According to Cardi B, Trump uses Twitter as a tool to distract from real issues.

"And my thing is, right, that we get distracted with people putting Trump on blast, like CNN constantly putting Trump on blast on the (expletive) he has been committing in this country, because he puts things on Twitter that distract us from all the (expletive) that he's actually been doing," she said.

Cardi B concluded her video urging her fans to focus on Democratic candidates' plans rather than on Trump's tweets.

"So instead of us posting the little (expletive) that he's been posting on Twitter, why don't we post every single day these positive things that these Democratic candidates want to do for our country," she said. "Like, this man has a big chance of winning in 2020, and we can change that."

The video stirred controversy, with some fans taking the rapper's side and others coming to criticize her.

"Here we go AGAIN," one person wrote. "You need to stick to rapping sis you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about."

"Sorry but trump has done a lot more than Obama !!!!!" one user commented. "I think people are running scared !!!"

Other Instagram users came to the rapper's defense.

"I’m so glad you are keeping your stance in politics," one user wrote. "I really don’t understand why anyone would want to keep supporting Trump."

"I find it funny that all these Trump Supporters are so (expletive) bored that they found out Cardi had something to say and they all came running trying to defend his (expletive)," another wrote.

"Just because she raps doesn't mean she can't have an opinion about politics," wrote another. "It's called multitasking and from what I hear she is pretty (expletive) good at it."
