Cardi B surprised fans when she revealed that the secret behind her recent shiny, healthy hair is onion water, and now she’s trying to help others on their own beauty journey.

She took to Twitter on Monday (Aug. 15) to shout out those who have taken her advice and tried the surprising technique on their own hair. “People are trying onion water and saying it’s working …I be trying to tell y’all. I be giving out advice and remedies that work on real hair ….and by the way long hair don’t mean HEALTHY HAIR!” she wrote alongside a fan testimonial.

When some critics argued that her hair is the way it is because of “genetics,” the “I Like It” rapper fired back by sharing photos of her hair when she was younger, pointing out the noticeable difference now. “Now when b—-es be trying to help y’all be yelling ‘genetics’ but the truth is this was my hair from my childhood to HS and I got some more pics of early 20s,” she wrote. “It wasn’t till I was 24 I started wanting to learn and nurture my hair …take it from ME! LET ME HELP YALL.”

She added that hair is often not a one size fits all matter, as castor oil and grape seed oil also work well on her hair, but not on her daughter Kulture’s. Coconut oil, meanwhile, didn’t work great for her but helped her four-year-old’s hair thrive.

Last week, Cardi revealed her onion water hair tip. “My last 2 washes I been boiling onions and using the water to wash my hair,” she wrote alongside a series of clips of her long hair. “I used to do this 6 years ago when I started my healthy hair growth journey.I stopped cause I got really lazy. Its odorless and I notice that it’s been giving a shine to my hair.”

Onions been used in the beauty space for years in countries like India due to their suspected health benefits. According to publication Femina India, due to the high sulphur content in onion, it’s believed to help reduce breakage and the thinning of hair by helping the regeneration of hair follicles. Additionally, the veggie’s antifungal properties are thought to help maintain scalp health, which reduces hair loss and leads to healthier hair growth without dandruff.
