Who Was Cardi B’s Incredible Pianist? Meet the Breakout Grammys Performer Chloe Flower

Cardi B‘s performance at the 61st annual Grammy Awards began with the CBS cameras focusing on an unlikely person: piano player Chloe Flower.

The fierce 33-year-old composer and pianist tickled the ivories of a bedazzled grand piano on the stage of the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California — sitting front and center for Cardi’s performance of her 2018 song, “Money.”

Dressed in an elegant ballgown, her hair pulled back in a ponytail, Flower had viewers gagging over her talents.

None of us will ever be as sickening as the woman playing piano for Cardi B,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

Too much swag,” said another of Flower. “She’s stealing the show. She’s my new favorite.”

Flower, also known as Chloe Won, is a superstar in her own right who has worked with the likes of Céline Dion (“Lullaby”), JAY-Z, Drake and Timbaland (“Know ‘Bout Me”), and Nas (“A Queen Story”).

She began her career at the prestigious Juilliard School before signing with Def Jam Records. There, she developed a reputation for her ability to fuse classical melodies with contemporary beats.

That unique blend has been a staple in all of Flower’s music. She’s hard at work on her debut album, and has released four singles so far in 2018: “Chopsticks,” “Nocturne,” “Radiance,” and “LA LA Land.”

The musician also composed the music for the 2015 Misty Copeland documentary A Ballerina’s Tale, and provided Mike Epps’ Netflix comedy special Don’t Take It Personal with its unique opening and closing themes.

Offstage, Flower has used her fame to become an outspoken advocate for music education and human rights.

She was honored with the Creative Coalition Award for Outstanding Achievement for her work against human trafficking at the second annual CAST gala in 2013. The honor was presented to her by Jada Pinkett Smith and Lisa Ling.

She also serves on the board of The Lamp Project, The California State Summer School for the Arts, and works closely with Not For Sale, GEMS, IMJ, CAST, Unlikely Heroes, Redlight, and many other human rights organizations.

Meanwhile, Flower wasn’t the only star on the stage during Cardi B‘s performance.

The sparkling piano she was playing is also famous. It belonged to the late great pianist, Liberace.

“Thank you Chloe Flower for taking Liberace’s crystal piano back onto the national stage, with such an amazing performance!” Liberace’s estate tweeted on Sunday.
