Cardi B got candid about what’s been holding up the release of her sophomore album. On Dec. 6, the rapper became vulnerable with fans about the reasons for the holdup. In an Instagram Live, she said a lack of confidence in the quality of the music, criticism and separation anxiety have all contributed to the delay.

As she walked around her home, Cardi spoke with fans about the four-year delay. She started by acknowledging the fans’ questions about new music and then proceeded to “get real with herself.”

“I feel like I have gotten too comfortable because, you know — I’m just a mom, and I do have anxiety. I’ve been having a lot of anxiety because I know right after I drop my album, I have to go out on tour, and I have bad separation anxiety from my kids,” she said.

The Bronx native then divulged she also wasn’t feeling the spark in the studio. “When it comes to the music, I just be feeling like I don’t be liking anything. I feel like I got so many songs. I just don’t like nothing. Like nothing is good enough. I got so much f**king money saved up, I be like, ‘Yeah, whatever the f**k.'”

She then stated that music has begun to feel like a “job” and that she was over the constant criticism.

“Making music to me has become like a job that gives me anxiety because everybody just critiques everything that I do," she said.

She continued, “It just like, sometimes you don’t want to do something that gives you that much anxiety, so I just be freezing myself, but I have to let that go. I have to release more music — I have to go out there.”

Before vocalizing the need to get her music out there, Cardi mentioned that performing was her favorite part of what she considers her "job."

She said that it “awakens” a different part of her.

The rapper then mentioned her recent private performance during Art Basel in Miami.

Blavity reported on the 35-minute performance, which Cardi said brought a payday of $1 million.

Cardi felt compelled to share an image of her invoice from the event when a shady fan tweeted that it seemed she was performing in a "backyard."

She deleted the clapback of her check but later shared performance images showing her passion for the stage.

Variety recently dropped the news that Cardi officially inked a new management deal with Irving and Jeffrey Azoff’s Full Stop Management.

Hopefully, with the guidance of new management and the push from the fans, we will be getting new music from Cardi soon.
