Cara Delevingne has said that Harvey Weinstein advised her to 'get a beard' rather than make her sexuality known to the public.
The 27-year-old model-turned-actress, who is bisexual, has previously spoken about her encounters with the disgraced film producer.
“In the beginning, I don’t think [my sexuality] helped,”she told Net-A-Porter.
“One of the first things Harvey Weinstein ever said to me was, ‘You will never make it in this industry as a gay woman – get a beard.’”
The Suicide Squad star first revealed a run-in with Weinstein, who has been accused by dozens of women of sexual assault and harassment dating back decades, in 2017, when many other women began coming forward with claims against him.
She said that Weinstein made sexual advances towards her, propositioned her with a threesome in exchange for a role, and also tried to get her to kiss another actress in front of him during an audition.
“As soon as we were alone he began to brag about all the actresses he had slept with and how he had made their careers and spoke about other inappropriate things of a sexual nature,” she said at the time.
Weinstein will go to trial in 2020 facing two counts of predatory sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual act, and two counts of rape.
In another encounter, she added: “When I’d just started to audition for films, he was naming people (women) I’m friends with – famous people – and asking, ‘Have you slept with this person?’ I just thought: This is insane'.”
It follows comments from Twilight star Kristen Stewart, who recently said that she was advised that if she stopped holding hands with girlfriends in public, it could land her a Marvel movie.
Stewart said: “I don’t want to work with people like that.”
