Captains Picard and Kirk Could Convince Kate Mulgrew to Reprise Her ‘Star Trek’ Role on Film

Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in an upcoming CBS All Access “Star Trek” series, which, naturally, raises questions about who else could be pulled back into space from the beloved franchise.

Kate Mulgrew said during the Destination Star Trek Birmingham event on Saturday that she is ready to bring back Captain Kathryn Janeway, whom she portrayed on “Star Trek: Voyager,” should the chance arise — though, it might take fellow captains Stewart as Picard and William Shatner as James T. Kirk to get her back in the Starfleet uniform.

“Shatner, Stewart and myself in some sort of movie – I’d love to do that. So the answer is yes (to putting her space suit back on)”-@TheKateMulgrew (cc: @WilliamShatner @SirPatStew) #DST #StarTrek

With Picard stepping back onto the bridge, who knows, maybe a reunion could be in the cards.

Janeway served as captain of the USS Voyager in the 1995-2001 series, and later a Starfleet admiral in the 2002 feature film “Star Trek: Nemesis.” There had been other female captains who appeared in “Star Trek” episodes to that point, but Mulgrew’s Janeway is the only one to serve as the central character of a “Star Trek” TV series.

Mulgrew, who has played the character “Red” Reznikov on Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” for seven seasons, also addressed how her “Star Trek” role “broke the mold.”

“I think that with Janeway, they broke the mold – Janeway embodied goodness as well as boldness, passion as well as intelligence. Her directive was the prime directive. Her compass was her moral compass” @TheKateMulgrew #DST #StarTrek

“You’re frantic because I’m a woman. You’re frantic because you think I’m going to fail ….I said Let them come to me” @TheKateMulgrew on what she told @berman_rick when they kept adjusting her hair, boots, etc #StarTrek #DST
