Avengers: Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have revealed that they originally planned for Thanos to decapitate Captain America from The Avengers so that he could then time travel to 2023 to taunt Endgame’s Captain America with it.

The duo made this admission at a San Diego Comic-Con panel to celebrate the blockbuster’s success, during which time they outlined several the ideas for Endgame that were eventually dropped.

Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier, who was in attendance at the event, reported that the pair contemplated beheading a version of Steve Rogers as they tried to figure out how to make Thanos’ return after being killed in the opening act more memorable.

“There were versions where Thanos returned with the head of dead Captain America from around 2014 to intimidate the Avengers in 2023.”

Those of you that are intrigued by this tease will be pleased to hear that the full grisly details of this scene will apparently be discussed in the commentary track for the upcoming Blu-ray of Avengers: Endgame.

Various other outlets also confirmed Markus and McFeely’s above comments at the event, which was conducted by Jeff Goldsmith of The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast.

Discussing Film also revealed that Markus and McFeely originally planned for Peter Parker to return from the Snap first, and that, bizarrely, all of The Avengers were going to be having a pizza party before the huge final battle commenced.
