Can't-miss events: Melting ice won't stop Sturgeon Spectacular, Sweet Stroll and more
FOND DU LAC — Warmer temperatures have derailed many activities taking place on Lake Winnebago, but the big events will go on.
The Sturgeon Spectacular will take place Feb. 9-11 at various locations in Fond du Lac.
There's also a Sweet Stroll in Ripon, a pancake supper fundraiser and live music with Franki Moscato.
Here are five can’t-miss events happening in the community this week.
1. Sturgeon Spectacular takes over Fond du Lac Feb. 9-11
The 2024 Sturgeon Spectacular gets underway with a plethora of events Feb. 9-11 in the Fond du Lac and Lake Winnebago region.
Organizations and businesses will host events, indoors and outdoors, at locations throughout Fond du Lac including Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, the downtown district and Lakeside Park.
Some of the highlights include the Wisconsin State Snow Sculpting Championship, the Outdoor Curling Funspiel, a Downtown Ice Sculpting Competition with displays and exhibitions, Snow Land children’s activities, horse-drawn wagon rides, a 5K run/walk and kids' fun run, a new High School Snow Sculpting Competition, food, drink, music, comedy and lots of fun.

2. Sample a variety of desserts during Ripon's Sweet Stroll
Ripon’s Sweet Stroll will take place 5 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 9. Attendees may sample up to seven different desserts at participating businesses.
The Sweet Stroll is designed for dessert lovers and the goal is to raise funds in support of downtown Ripon’s revitalization program.
Desserts will be offered from several of the best bakeries and restaurants in the area. The dessert list will be published on the Facebook Sweet Stroll event page.
Tickets are $25 per person. Registration is required as there are limited tickets available. Purchase tickets online at eventbrite.com.
This is a rain-or-snow-or-shine event, and all ticket sales are final.
3. Pancake supper to help raise funds for St. Stephen's
St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church of Rogersville, N5680 Towne Road, Rosendale, will hold its annual Pancake Supper Feb. 12. The all-you-can-eat supper will be served 4 to 7 p.m.
The menu includes includes pancakes, sausage, applesauce, cheese, dessert and beverage.
The cost is a freewill donation.
4. Live music with Franki Moscato at Ziegler Feb. 9
Franki Moscato will perform at 5 p.m. Feb. 9 at Ziegler Winery, W3953 Winnebago Heights Road, Malone.
Moscato also will promote awareness of the growing epidemic of teen suicide. Ziegler will donate a portion of bottle sales to the Franki Moscato Foundation. There is no cover charge to listen.
More than 20 wines are on the tasting menu with extensive hors d’oeuvres also available.

5. Learn about Corey Geiger's life during book discussion
Discuss “Books Between Bites” at 12:10 p.m. Feb. 13 at Salem United Methodist Church, 120 Sheboygan St.
This month's book is “The Wisconsin Farm They Built: Tales of Family and Fortitude” by Corey A. Geiger.
Growing up on his family's dairy farm, and known to friends as the Dancing Dairyman, Geiger danced his way onto Family Feud hosted by Steve Harvey, Texas Two Stepped during the Supreme Champion ceremonies at the 2018 World Dairy Expo and competed at the Fred Astaire National Finals, where he and his wife, Krista Knigge, won top amateur couple honors.
