This year’s selection world premieres nine features, three of which are documentaries.

They include It Doesn’t Matter, the second feature by U.S. producer and director Josh Mond, who made waves with his first movie James White at Sundance in 2015, and has since focused mainly on producing.

Christopher Abbott and Jay Will star in the drama revolving around the redemptive relationship between a lost man from Staten Island and a young filmmaker.

Launched in 1992, ACID previously showcased the early features of the likes of Oscar winner Justine Triet and Oscar-nominated director Kaouther Ben Hania as well as award winning filmmakers Radu Jude, Guy Maddin and Robert Guediguian.

Cannes 2023 Palme d’Or winner Triet’s first feature Age of Panic (La Bataille de Solférino) played in the section in 2013, while Ben Hania’s mockumentary Challat Tunes (Challat de Tunis) made the ACID cut the following the year.

Further buzzy titles in the selection this year include drama Most People Die On Sundays, the first feature of Argentinian director Iair Said, which clinched a number work in progress prizes at the San Sebastian Film Festival’s Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum last year.

As per the official synopsis: “a 30-something millennial, overweight, homosexual and with a grappling fear of flying regretfully returns to his native Argentina to attend his uncle’s funeral.”

Once there, he reconnects with his mother and Jewish family, while embarking on a quest across Buenos Aires to quench his anxiety via driving lessons, cheap healthcare and trying to sleep with any man that shows him a little attention.

Established directors in the mix include French filmmaker Guillaume Brac who will unveil Ce n’est qu’un au revoir, a bittersweet documentary following school friends as they head onto the next stage of their lives on completing high school amid questions around whether their friendships will survive.
