Candace Owens has publicly defended Beyoncé from criticism received over her foray into the country music genre, claiming that the R&B legend is “more country” than megastar Taylor Swift.

During a recent episode of The Candace Owens Podcast, the political pundit surprised many by backing Beyoncé’, as Owens argued that her country roots are more authentic than Swift’s. Owens pointed out that while Beyoncé was born and raised in Texas, Swift was born in Pennsylvania and accused the latter of having a “fake” accent.

“Some people are saying that this is not very country,” Owens said of Beyoncé’s new “Texas Hold ‘Em.” “I’m going to defend Beyoncé on that point because Beyoncé’s kind of always been country. She’s more country than Taylor Swift ever was for sure.”

Owens, continued, “Beyoncé is from Houston, Texas. She’s always had a twang… [Taylor Swift] put on a fake twang. Everyone was okay with it. You can’t say that Taylor Swift can do it, and Beyonce can’t.”

Beyoncé’s deep dive into the world of country music has come with its fair share of skeptics and detractors, as some fans and critics have refused to embrace her new single “Texas Hold ‘Em” as a country song. One radio station even refused to add the record to its rotation until backing off of that decision as a result of a public outcry by those deeming the programmer’s tactics as discriminatory.

However, others have been more welcoming of Beyoncé’s fresh approach to the genre. Country legend Dolly Parton voiced her anticipation of the songstress’ forthcoming Act II album. “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album,” Parton wrote on Instagram. “Can’t wait to hear the full album!”

In addition, she also congratulated Beyoncé on “Texas Hold ‘Em” becoming the top song in the country after peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single,” Parton said of the track, which is Beyoncé’s ninth chart-topper and her first since her Act I: Renaissance single “Break My Soul” in 2022.
