Candace Cameron Bure, Raven-Symoné Spar Over Wedding Cake For Lesbian Couple
On The View, guest host Candace Cameron Bure got into a heated debate with Raven-Symone over an Oregon bakery refusing service to a lesbian couple. The bakery was ordered by the state’s labor commission to pay $135,000 to the two women for emotional and mental anguish they caused.
Raven-Symoné agreed with the ruling, “The Oregon law bars businesses from discriminating against sexual orientation, race, disability, age or religion and to me, it’s the same exact thing that they did back in the day saying that black people couldn’t do certain things because it’s my ‘religious belief.’”
Raven’s fellow former child star disagreed with her, “I think you are comparing apples to oranges here. I don’t think this is discrimination at all. This is about freedom of association. It’s about constitutional rights. It’s about First Amendment rights. We do have the right to still choose who we associate with.
An annoyed Raven-Symoné replied, “I refuse to associate myself with you is that ok?”
