Candace Cameron Bure has been married for half her life.

Today marks the Fuller House actress’s 20th wedding anniversary to retired NHL player Valeri “Val” Bure. In honor of the special milestone, the 40-year-old shared a throwback from their big day — and they look like two baby-faced kids in love. In fact, the Russian jock, who was 22 at the time, barely looks old enough to say, “I do.”

20 years. Happy Anniversary to us. #anniversary #happyanniversary

The wedding took place in 1996, the year after Full House ended. The pair had been introduced by her co-star Dave Coulier at a hockey-related charity event, and it was love at first sight.

Twenty years of marriage in Hollywood is an eternity, so what the heck is their secret? Apparently, it’s a somewhat dated way of thinking. In her book Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose, the View co-host talked about how she has a “submissive role” in her marriage.

“My husband is a natural-born leader,” she wrote. “I quickly learned that I had to find a way of honoring his take-charge personality and not get frustrated about his desire to have the final decision on just about everything. I am not a passive person, but I chose to fall into a more submissive role in our relationship because I wanted to do everything in my power to make my marriage and family work.“

She later clarified to Yahoo that she “used the word ‘submissive’ because it’s from the Bible, but people who don’t understand that see that as offensive.” She continued, “My husband is not a dictator. We work together, but I don’t want to dig my heels in and I have no aspirations to be the ruler of my family. We are two equal people, but I love my husband and I want him to lead.”

Well, she is Kirk Cameron’s sister. But, hey, it works for her. Twenty years is very impressive. Mazel tov to them.
