Basement bloggers beware, Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin is having none of it.

Speculation arose that Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin might be on the trade block after an article was published by Sportsnet’s Eric Engels late Wednesday night. Engels wrote that an Eastern Conference executive texted him saying, “[Drouin’s] name is definitely out there.”

Of course this spicy tidbit caught traction online over the next few hours, leading Bergevin to quickly shut down the rumours at the podium on Thursday.

Drouin scored just four goals and 16 points in his final 30 games last season, and he’s only recorded one assist in three preseason games so far.

Though he might not be on the trade block, Bergevin noted that Drouin needs to improve.

"He had some good moments, but overall, we need more,” Bergevin said. “I mean, he's not the only one who's not up to par right now. I know we're picking on Jo – or you guys are asking about Jo – but I can name you a few guys who are not up to par and that's what training camp's all about.”
