The show's official Twitter account confirmed casting is now underway, with the series set to premiere later this year on Crave in Canada and on the WOW Presents Plus streaming app in the United States.
Across 10 episodes throughout the summer of 2020, Canada's Drag Race season 1 became the third English-language iteration of the global Drag Race franchise, following the American version and RuPaul's Drag Race UK, which debuted its inaugural season in late 2019 (and returns for season 2 on Jan. 14). Other global installments include The Switch in South America, Drag Race Thailand, Drag Race Holland, and the upcoming Drag Race Spain. In our All-Stars 5 cover story, producers Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey told EW they were eyeing "three or four" new regions to host Drag Race series in the future.
"We are thrilled to bring another season of Canada's Drag Race to fans, alongside Blue Ant and Crave," Barbato and Bailey said in a joint press statement. "Audiences can look forward to even more charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent that the inspiring drag artists of the Great White North have to offer."
Judged by Drag Race season 11 finalist Brooke Lynn Hytes, Canada's Drag Race season 1 pitted 12 queens against each other in pursuit of the title and a $100,000 cash prize. While Priyanka became the first Indo-Caribbean champion in franchise history, Canada's Drag Race introduced several notable personalities to the worldwide fandom, including the non-binary, Indigenous queen Ilona Verley, seasoned Quebec performer Rita Baga, quirky costume designer Jimbo, and Toronto drag icon Tynomi Banks.
"Growing up, there weren't a lot of people like me on TV. It's kind of interesting now to be Canada's first drag superstar, because now someone who looks like me can be like, 'Oh, I guess I can do that too!'" Priyanka previously told EW in her coronation interview. "We're normalizing people of color winning things. Shea Couleé. Jaida Essence Hall. That's normal!"
A firm premiere date and panel of judges for season 2 of Canada's Drag Race have yet to be announced. RuPaul's Drag Race season 13 is currently airing Fridays at 8:00 p.m. on VH1.
