“Camp Cretaceous” team sets new “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” series for 2024

The same creators behind Camp Cretaceous are back with another CG-animated Jurassic World show on Netflix. Wait for the surprise at the end of the announcement teaser.

More than a year after Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous closed its park gates... they are reopening.

Netflix announced a new CG-animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory out of Geeked Week, the virtual week-long event that previews the streamer's upcoming releases.

The new show certainly appears to be a sequel series to Camp Cretaceous, which capped its five-season run in July 2022. Though Netflix and DreamWorks Animation have not confirmed the connection to Camp Cretaceous, there are clear hints, such as the same creators behind the scenes are now back making this new show.

In an exclusive statement, Scott Kreamer, a showrunner on both series, tells EW, "Bringing Camp Cretaceous to life was an absolutely amazing experience, and we couldn't be more thrilled to begin an exciting new chapter with Jurassic World: Chaos Theory."

There's also the announcement teaser, which comes with an added surprise in the final shot: a young man exits a Jurassic World van. The hosts of Netflix's Geeked Week have confirmed this is a grown-up version of Darius, one of the main Camp Cretaceous characters, who was voiced by actor Paul-Mikél Williams.

The rest of the footage reveals a helicopter chasing after a rampaging T. Rex. "After the park has closed, after the kingdom has fallen, a new era of chaos begins… Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is coming to Netflix in 2024," reads an official description.

Camp Cretaceous showrunners and executive producers Scott Kreamer and Aaron Hammersley are back in the same creative roles for Chaos Theory, which also sees the return of EPs Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Frank Marshall. This, too, hails from animation studio DreamWorks and production companies Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. Hence why this all seems like a sequel series.

Camp Cretaceous began its first season during the events of the 2015 live-action film Jurassic World. As the Indominus Rex wreaked havoc on Isla Nublar, the story saw what was going on at the other end of the island, where a group of kids were trying to enjoy their summer camp. Williams' Darius, Ben (Sean Giambrone), Yaz (Kausar Mohammed), Brooklynn (Jenna Ortega), Kenji (Ryan Potter), and Sammy (Raini Rodriguez) ended up getting stranded on Nublar.

Season 5 saw the kids finally leave the island and return to their normal lives, but not before uncovering another secret island from the villainous Mantah Corp. that tried to mind control dinosaurs. Of course, there's also the whole events of 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, in which the volcano of Isla Nublar erupted and wiped out everything still on the island.

Clearly, there are a lot of questions to be asked about when and where Chaos Theory now takes place. For now, watch the announcement teaser in the video above.
