Camino owner has plans for former Benno's building in West Allis

Casey Rataczak, the owner of the Camino restaurants in Milwaukee and West Aliis, is planning a new venue in the former Benno's Bar and Grill building in West Allis, at 7413 W. Greenfield Ave.

Rataczak announced on Facebook Wednesday that he purchased the property.

Benno's closed in summer 2022 after 41 years in business. The closing was met with an outpouring of support from the community and customers who had made connections at the bar.

Marty Weigel and his wife, Suzie, opened Benno's in 1980 on 73rd Street and National Avenue before moving to the Greenfield Avenue location in 1989.

Benno's became a local pioneer in the craft beer movement and Rataczak wrote "the bar is set high" for the new concept.

Rataczak didn't immediate return a phone call for an interview.
