Camila Morrone’s emergence as a red carpet star experienced an interruption in 2023 with the SAG-AFTRA strike, but her evolution is back in full force with the 2024 awards season, as evidenced by the ethereal look the Daisy Jones & The Six co-star wore to the 29th Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, Jan 14.
“I had my eye on this look forever [and] was waiting for the perfect moment to wear it,” Morrone explains of her chosen red carpet ensemble. “I always opt for something timeless and classic and feminine, but also youthful. The beading and silhouette bring the right amount of detail and dimension. It feels delicate and sophisticated.”

Working with star stylist Sandra Amador to walk the 2024 Critics Choice Awards red carpet, Morrone wore a design from creative director Virginie Viard’s Chanel Spring 2022 haute-couture collection: a white silk-chiffon top and long skirt. Both are pleated and are embroidered within the pleats with shard beads and crystals. Roughly 5,000 embroidered elements were required in the construction of the dress, necessitating 961 hours of handwork. The result is decidedly vivacious.
“We wanted to make sure that her carpet look for this event felt classic while maintaining some playfulness,” confirms Amador, whose clients also include Lady Gaga, Austin Butler and Maggie Gyllenhaal. “Chanel exudes an effortless elegance, and I think that really aligns with Cami’s overall vibe. We’ve had some really amazing looks together over the years.”
The pair have been collaborating for a little less than two years, Amador adds. “She’s someone who really knows what she loves and has a strong vision,” the stylist notes. “I love collaborating with her for that reason; we have very specific ideas that we then bring to life.”
“Sandra and I have been having a lot of fun,” agrees Morrone, who describes her personal aesthetic as minimalist and simple. “I don’t believe in following trends. I know instantly when I try something on if it feels right, and I try to trust my gut with it.” (The actress next stars in the romantic heist film Marmalade, set for release in February and co-starring Joe Keery and Aldis Hodge.)
They also kept the accessories simple: Chanel heels in white and black satin — the latter detail intended to complement the chiffon top’s black satin bow — and jewelry by Brilliant Earth, the San Francisco-based company that specializes in ethically sourced stones. “We decided to keep the jewelry minimal for this look to really let the embellishments and details of the gown shine,” Amador says.
With that in mind, makeup artist Mary Phillips focused on a beauty look that put an emphasis on Morrone’s skin, a look she described as “moisturized and radiant.” Chanel Sublimage La Crème Ultimate Regeneration Eye Cream was key to brightening Morrone’s eyes, Phillips explained, while the brand’s Sublimage Le Soin Perfecteur Ultimate Radiance-Enhancing Priming Moisturizer added “a touch of luminosity” to the actress’ skin.
Ultimately, the breezy elegance Morrone exuded Sunday night is sure to remain in the pair’s style repertoire. “I think Cami had gotten to a place where she’s exploring new ideas and taking risks, while [remaining] true to herself,” Amador says. “I’m excited to continue down this style journey with her and look forward to creating many more looks together.”
