Drew Barrymore got a special gift on her 46th birthday: a virtual visit from her longtime best friend Cameron Diaz.

The actress and TV host celebrated her special day on "The Drew Barrymore Show" Monday with a series of surprise guests, including Diaz, who Barrymore has known since before they starred in the 2000 "Charlie's Angels" reboot with Lucy Liu.

"Truly one of the great joys of my life is our friendship," Diaz told the birthday girl over video chat. "When I think about you, literally I will cry, because I just think you're so special and to celebrate you every year, it's one of my favorite times of the year."

"Today" show anchor Savannah Guthrie also appeared on Monday's show, noting that Diaz, whom Barrymore affectionately refers to as "PooPoo," is known as Barrymore's "very, very, very closest friend." The two usually celebrate their birthdays together, but the pandemic made an in-person celebration difficult.

"Usually we get to actually be together," Diaz said. "We are not big gift-givers, we're more about experience, so we always try to go someplace and do something with the girls and be together. Cook, eat, hang and stay up all night and just have the best time."

The two were previously roommates, Barrymore noted. Now, Diaz is godmother to Barrymore's 6-year-old daughter, Frankie.

"You always make me a better person, whether you're mad because I'm leaving my lights on for the energy of the planet, or if my behavior needs a real room check and it's time for me to grow up again, and everything between," Barrymore gushed. "I love you more. You are what true friendship is all about."

Should "Charlie's Angels" fans hold out hope for a reunion? Nothing concrete is in the works, but Diaz – who retired from acting after appearing in 2014's "Annie" – noted she would "never say never."

"I'm glad that people feel that way," Barrymore said. "I'll be grannies in inner tubes with PooPoo, so we can do anything and everything as long as we're together. I have a whole life to live with you."
