Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding, Framed

Exciting news this week, readers! We’re featuring “Outside,” by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, simply as a gift to you. The vid’s already got more than 100 million views on Vevo, most of them mine, and may be the single greatest video filmed on October 20, 2014.  In Los Angeles, I mean.

Harris is a well-known singer/songwriter/producer/DJ with scads of dance hits to his credit. In fact, he holds the record for the most top ten hits from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart (nine), beating out Michael Jackson. Ellie Goulding is a British singer/multi-instrumentalist whose last LP, Halcyon, hit #9 on the US charts, and #1 in the UK, where it sold over 900,000 copies.

The two collaborated once before on 2013’s “I Need Your Love,” which was a big hit here and abroad, so it’s not surprising to see them teamed up again. The video seems to be all about crumbling relationships – i.e., relationships – in which was see both of the artists’ significant others yelling, throwing stuff, and, in general, doing the things that make relationships special.

Towards the end of the video, the two stars (in the words of Rolling Stone) “seem to acquire super powers.” That’s no big deal to us! In Framed, everyone eventually acquires super powers. Even inanimate objects!

So sit back, enjoy the video, savor the captions, and be back next week when we do the world’s worst song. Even the video sucks!
